Imbil Camping Retreat

August 19, 2020 by Amber Beckwith

We spent the long weekend at Imbil Camping Retreat approximately 2 hours from Brisbane.

We had been wanting to check this place out for a while & as soon as the the Ekka Long Weekend was confirmed, we got in contact straight away & locked in 3 waterfront sites.

These sites are great (we picked 12, 13 & 14) as they are spacious & you can’t be hemmed in by other campers. They give you a great view of Yabba Creek & you can keep an eye on the kids playing down at the water at the same time.

These sites are unpowered and cost $150 for 3 nights for our family of 5.

Powered sites are also available on the property, but they are not waterfront sites.

An off-shoot of the Mary River, there is a lot of water in Yabba Creek, so it’s more like a river than a creek. Lots of water for kayaking & canoeing in both directions, great for swimming & just floating off the gravelly beach. Fishing is also permitted, though we didn’t give it a go this trip.

There is a large rock that the kids just loved swimming out to. They played out there for hours... when they weren’t riding their bikes! We hardly saw them this weekend, only returning to our camp to refuel their bellies!

The grounds are tidy & well kept with an abundance of Jacarandas & other shady trees. The facilities are new & well maintained & include hot showers & toilets, camp kitchen, rubbish disposal & a dump point.

The Managers - Mark & Rachelle, are friendly & welcoming & stock ice, firewood & ice creams up at the office.

The campground is pretty much right in the lovely little town of Imbil - just a short walk away from a bakery, pub, general store, takeaway shop & a skate park. There is also a local market every Sunday at 8am.

Campfires are allowed in firepits only & Imbil Camping Retreat is dog friendly.

Our verdict? A great weekend getaway with friends. Having the waterfront sites definitely enhanced our experience. Our kids loved this country retreat & are already asking when we can return!

Happy Travels!
